Made Is Reducing Their Carbon Footprint One Pet Bed At a Time

This eco-conscious pet furniture brand puts your pet and the planet first.

What’s the difference between good pet furniture and great pet furniture? Well, good pet furniture is functional. Your dog/cat/giant free-range rabbit is happy to use it and every time they do you breathe a sigh of relief that they were more attracted to it than the cardboard box it came in.

Great pet furniture does that, too, but unlike the merely good stuff, it also looks nice. Like, really nice. So nice, you don’t feel a burning desire to hide it away when guests come over. On the contrary! It’s so well designed that it fits seamlessly with the rest of your décor. It even, dare you say it, adds to the general ambience and enhances the overall aesthetic of your home.

Not only that, but it’s made with ethically sourced materials and sustainable manufacturing processes. Although you know that the greenest thing you can do is not shop at all and just use things you already own, you can at least feel good that the carbon footprint of this particular purchase is smaller than it could have been.

So, where do you find all this beautifully-designed, sustainable-manufactured, great pet furniture? Well, MADE, for one. MADE is a London-based furniture and home goods company. Most of their products are designed for human use — sheets, arm chairs, dining tables, kitchen storage solutions — but they also have an excellent range of pet products.

They make some really cool wall-mounted cat shelves that would look great hanging over a low credenza, as part of a gallery wall. The Tonka is woven out of water hyacinth and has a sort of rustic Scandinavian country vibe, while the Kyali has a sleeker profile perfect for more modern living spaces.

Actually there are a handful of pieces in the Kyali line, any of which would make a beautiful addition to a minimalist-leaning design-focused home. There’s the Kyali Cat Climber, which is sort of like MADE’s version of a cat tree, the Kyali Pet Feeder and Storage Container, and the sleek and architectural Kyali Pet Pyramid.

They have some seriously adorable mini pet sofas, which mimic the designs and utilize the same materials as some of their most popular human-sized sofas. What better way to make sure Biscuit stays off your lovely new couch than by getting her a matching little lounger of her very own?

They’ve also got a bunch of more traditional pet beds and floor cushions, many of them made with recycled materials. Like many eco-conscious brands, MADE is constantly working to reduce their carbon footprint and they are currently on track to convert to 100% recycled polyester and 100% recycled or organic cotton in all their products by 2025.

They’re also experimenting with new materials and modes of production, as in the case of their Kysler pet bed, which is made with a recyclable outer fabric, which is created by a process that uses pre-consumer waste and requires zero water.

MADE is also working hard to reduce the amount or packaging they use and is in the process of converting to 100 percent recycled and recyclable packaging by 2025. Sixty percent of their products are made with traceable or recycled lumber and they are hoping to convert fully in the next few years. They also regularly visit their factories to make sure the working conditions are up to their standards. In other words, they’re really trying. And the stuff they’re making (wether for use by humans or pets) looks really nice, too. Great even.
